A grand opening ceremony will be held at Naval Support
Activity Annapolis Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. for the new commissary and Navy Exchange
complex across from the current facility on Kinkaid Road. The ceremony is open
to the public.
Construction of the new complex, which is LEED Silver
certified, began in February 2013. The project has increased the size of the
commissary from 25,800 square feet to approximately 51,500 square feet and the
size of the Navy Exchange from 37,200 square feet to approximately 98,500
square feet.
The new complex includes an outdoor garden area, a barber
shop, a beauty shop, an optical store, a jewelry store and a food court; in
addition to areas for administration, operational support, and staging and
receiving. Also included at the new complex is a Navy Federal Credit Union
branch.
Commissaries and exchanges are open to active duty military
members, retirees and their families. They are a core military family support
element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits. Commissaries and
exchanges contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for
America's military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and
brightest men and women to serve their country.
