New Navy Exchange and Commissary Opens Sep. 10

A grand opening ceremony will be held at Naval Support Activity Annapolis Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. for the new commissary and Navy Exchange complex across from the current facility on Kinkaid Road. The ceremony is open to the public.


Construction of the new complex, which is LEED Silver certified, began in February 2013. The project has increased the size of the commissary from 25,800 square feet to approximately 51,500 square feet and the size of the Navy Exchange from 37,200 square feet to approximately 98,500 square feet.

The new complex includes an outdoor garden area, a barber shop, a beauty shop, an optical store, a jewelry store and a food court; in addition to areas for administration, operational support, and staging and receiving. Also included at the new complex is a Navy Federal Credit Union branch.

Commissaries and exchanges are open to active duty military members, retirees and their families. They are a core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits. Commissaries and exchanges contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America's military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their country.

According to the Defense Commissary Agency the new complex will serve a customer base of of more than 84,800 authorized shoppers (active duty, Guard and reserve, retirees and family members) within 20 miles of the store.
